Energy-Related Degree Programs at CU-Boulder

Although it is not possible to major or get a degree in Renewable and Sustainable Energy at CU-Boulder, there are several academic programs that focus on renewable and sustainable energy.

The Environmental Studies graduate program offers a concentration on energy. This concentration provides students with skills and knowledge in three areas:

  • Energy science and technology: energy flows, energy conversion technologies, energy efficiency and the role of technology in changing energy use.
  • Energy economics and markets: energy supply and demand, price and regulation as influences on energy markets, energy and carbon market interactions.
  • Energy policy and planning: policies affecting energy supply and demand, ties to environmental policy and alternative energy futures.

The Building Systems Program in the Department of Civil Engineering offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in building systems. Faculty members in the program represent a wide variety of interests with emphasis on building systems analysis, artificial intelligence applications to buildings, HVAC and building environmental design and modeling, energy management, intelligent buildings and building controls, renewable energy and illumination.

There is a graduate renewable and sustainable energy certificate program, open to all enrolled graduate students.

The Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies offers a Certificate Program in Sustainable Practices.
